Luke 2:1-20

The Birth of Jesus

In those days Caesar Augustus issued a decree that a census should be taken of the entire Roman world. (This was the first census that took place while Quirinius was governor of Syria.) And everyone went to their own town to register.
So Joseph also went up from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea, to Bethlehem the town of David, because he belonged to the house and line of David. He went there to register with Mary, who was pledged to be married to him and was expecting a child. While they were there, the time came for the baby to be born, and she gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no guest room available for them.
And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. 10 But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. 11 Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord. 12 This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.”
13 Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying,
14 “Glory to God in the highest heaven,
and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.”
15 When the angels had left them and gone into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, “Let’s go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has told us about.”
16 So they hurried off and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby, who was lying in the manger. 17 When they had seen him, they spread the word concerning what had been told them about this child, 18 and all who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds said to them. 19 But Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart. 20 The shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things they had heard and seen, which were just as they had been told.

AFRICA: KENYA BANS MARIE STOPES INTERNATIONAL FROM OFFERING ABORTION SERVICES; ALLEGED NEWS

AFRICA: MARIE STOPES INTERNATIONAL HAS BEEN BANNED FROM OFFERING ABORTION SERVICES IN KENYA, AND HAS BEEN REPRIMANDED FOR BREAKING THE REPUBLIC'S LAWS; ALLEGED NEWS. [1] The declaration came from the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Board (KMPDB), after a public outcry over the fact that Marie Stopes Kenya's advertisements promoted abortion, which is largely illegal in the country; Alleged News. [1]

Inquiry
A Special Preliminary Inquiry Committee was convened by the KMPDB after attention was drawn to the fact that Marie Stopes had adverts running on various radio stations, despite a ban on all abortion advertising by the Kenya Film Classification Boards, Alleged News. [1]

Petition
The complainant in the case is Ms Ann Kioko of CitizenGo Africa, which ran a petition calling on the Health Secretary to investigate the adverts and ban Marie Stopes from operating in Kenya: Alleged News. [1] Evidence of adverts promoting abortion on radio, newspapers and social media was given, and Ms Kioko said she had personally called Marie Stopes' switchboard and been told she could have an abortion for 5 000 Kenyan shillings; Alleged News. [1]

Marie Stopes
A woman testified she was given an abortion at a Marie Stopes clinic in Nairobi 22 years ago, and said that the abortion had led to "profound psychological and spiritual effects" that she battled with for years; Alleged News. [1]
An obstetrician reminded the committee that the constitution of Kenya recognizes the right to life, and that life begins at conception.
Dr Ngare also said that the World Health Organisation gives no definition of "safe abortion " that Marie Stopes claims to provide, not least because abortion is never safe for the unborn child and the women who suffer psychological truama; Alleged News. [1]

Chairman of Marie Stopes Kenya
The Chairman of Marie Stopes Kenya admitted running adverts promoting "safe abortion" and said they did not halt them as they had not received the letter from the Kenya Film Classification Board instructing them to do so; Alleged News. [1]
This statement was contradicted by a Kenya Film Classification Board representative, who affirmed the Country Director of Marie Stopes Kenya had acknowledged receipt of their letter: Alleged News. [1]

Marie Stopes to cease and desist
The KMPDM ruled that Marie Stopes had breached advertising rules in and was in violation of the prohibition against propagating "deceitful, erroneous or misleading information"; Alleged News. They also noted with concern that the advertising campaign had as target youths between 14 and 25 years old: Alleged News. [1]
The Board ordered that Marie Stopes Kenya immediately cease and desist offering any form of abortion services in all its facilities within the Republic of Kenya, Alleged News. [1]

Culture of Life Africa
In 2017, Lumiere Charity wrote of the Culture of Life Africa's video focusing on Marie Stopes International's Operations in Africa; Alleged News. [2]
The video 'Killing Africa' presented by Ms Obianuju Ekeocha included an interview with a former worker of a Marie Stopes International [MSI] abortion clinic in Uganda, who claimed that illegal abortions were carried out by medical assistants [not doctors] and that foetal remains were flushed down the toilet; Alleged News. [2]
The video highlighted how the funding given to Marie Stopes international was being spent, Alleged News. [2]
According to Culture of Life Africa, MSI performed 3.3 million abortions and abortion related services every year, Alleged News. [2]

MSI queried by Care Quality Commissions
In the UK, Marie Stopes Internationl was queried by the Care Quality Commissions after inspectors found a catalogue of practices in English clinics, Alleged News. [2]
The 2,600 safety flaws at Marie Stopes abortion clinics included the following in the Care Quality Commission report, Alleged News. [2]
- Doctors were going home for the day leaving sedated women in the hands of nurses and healthcare assistants; almost half of nurses had not been trained to do resuscitation, Alleged News [2]
- Some vulnerable women did not understand the full consequences of what they were about to do, Alleged News [2]
- Safety incidents including medical blunders and equipment failures had increased by a third in a year; Alleged News [2]
- Doctors were signing off up to 60 consent forms at a time when they were meant to be making a thorough assessment; One filled in up to 26 in two minutes; Alleged News [2]
- Foetal remains were dumped in ordinary medical waste bins rather than sealed for cremation, Alleged News [2]
The CQC was particularly concerned about safety and lack of training, warning patients were not protected from avoidable harm, Alleged News. [2]

PARLIAMENT LAUNCH FOR NEW FILM REGARDING UK FUNDING OF ABORTION INDUSTRY IN AFRICA; ALLEGED NEWS

THE PREMIERE OF THE HARROWING FILM 'STRINGS ATTACHED'  WAS RECENTLY HOSTED AT THE HOUSE OF COMMONS BY THE SOCIETY FOR THE PROTECTION OF UNBORN CHILDREN: ALLEGED NEWS. [1] The premier was sponsored by Labour MP Mary Glindon, Alleged News. The film shows how UK overseas aid is being utilised to fund a booming abortion industry in Africa: Alleged News. [1]

Documentary

The ground-breaking documentary has been made in Nigeria by President Ekeocha of Culture of Life Africa. It follows what happens to the millions of pounds of foreign aid given by Western donors, and the UK Government in particular, to sexual and reproductive health and rights [SRHR] in Africa, Alleged News. [1]

To watch the Documentary 'Strings Attached'

Interviews
The documentary features interviews with women who have had their lives devastated by abortion and contraceptive devices by organisations such as Marie Stopes; Alleged News.
President Ekeocha said, "This feature-length documentary presents the African side of the story of enthusiastic western donors and the impact on the African recipients of their 'gifts'. We expose how western funding to abortion-providers like Marie Stopes International (MSI) is undermining traditional African values which respect human life,
No-one ever bothers to follow the trail of the funding to know where, and how it ends up, or to know how the individual lives of African women in cities and villages alike are affected by it," Alleged News. [1]
"At the center of this story is a British reproductive health organisation and a regular recipient of UK government funding, whose practices in some of the African countries have devastated the lives of many African women and girls, everything from life-altering side effects of donor-provided free contrraceptives to alleged illegal abortion practices," President Ekeocha continued: Alleged News. [1]
"The film amplifies the African voices that have never been heard before, with the hope that the world will finally listen to them, hear their experiences, share in their sorrows and take action to end this form of neo-colonialism that is destroying lives in Africa under the guise of sexual and reproductive health and rights," Alleged News. [1]

Marie Stopes International

The documentary also explores Marie Stopes International (MSI) in the UK: Alleged News. [1] It further highlights the 2016 Care Quality Commission report: Alleged News. [1]
The UK government gave 44 million pounds in 2017, and recently pledged another 200 million pounds for family planning in Africa and Asia; Alleged News. [1]

Marie Stopes Abortion Clinics

The 2,600 safety flaws at Marie Stopes abortion clinics included the following in the Care Quality Commission report, Alleged News. [2]
- Doctors were going home for the day leaving sedated women in the hands of nurses and healthcare assistants; almost half of  nurses had not been trained to do resuscitation; Alleged News [2]
- Some vulnerable women did not understand the full consequences of what they were about to do; Alleged News [2]
- Safety incidents including medical blunders and equipment failures had increased by a third in a year; Alleged News [2]
- Doctors were signing off up to 60 consent forms at a time when they were meant to be making a thorough assessment; One willed in up to 26 in two minutes; Alleged News [2]
- Foetal remains were dumped in ordinary medical waste bins rather than sealed for cremation; Alleged News [2]

The CQC was particularly concerned about safety and lack of training, warning patients were not protected from avoidable harm, Alleged News. [2]

SPUC

SPUC campaign director Antonia Tully said, "We should be asking serious questions about why more than £1 billion has been earmarked  by the UK government for the support and promotion of sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) in countries like Africa. Abortion is not a solution to poverty.
"Since 2017 the UK government has been committed to donating £225 million every year to developing countries until 2022 for reproductive health services - which includes contraception and abortions. The human costs are catastrophic," Alleged News. [1]

Contraceptive Methods and Dangers

Contraceptive methods and dangers are discussed in 'Value-Based Sexual Expression' on pages 25, 26, 32 to 35.

Safe Contraceptive Options for Women

For women who are concerned for their reproductive health, safe and natural contraceptive options for Women are discussed in the book 'Value-Based Sexual Expression'. These include the 'Billings Ovulation Method' [see pages 25 to 30],  Ovulation Home Test [pages 30 to 32].

SAINT PAUL VI CANONISED - PROPHET OF THE SANCTITY OF UNBORN LIFE

TODAY IN ROME SAINT PAUL VI WAS RECOGNIZED AS A GREAT SAINT. The canonization ceremony was attended by thousands.
Earlier this year the Congregation for the Causes of Saints approved the second miracle needed for the canonization of then Pope Blessed Paul VI.
The second miracle - (an extraordinary and welcome event that is not explicable by natural or scientific laws and is therefore attributed to intercession to Divine Agency) - is the healing of an unborn child in the fifth month of pregnancy. The case was brought forward in 2014 for study.

The mother, originally from Verona Italy, suffered an illness which risked her own life and the life of her unborn child. She was advised by doctors to have an abortion.
A few days after the beatification of Pope Paul VI, the mother went to pray for his intercession on her and her child's behalf, to God. She prayed at the Shrine of Holy Mary of Grace in Brescia, Italy. Her baby daughter was later born in good health, and continues in good health. The healing was ruled as medically inexplicable.(1)

Saint of the Unborn Child
The first miracle attributed to the intercession of Saint Paul VI took place during the 1990's in California. A then-unborn child was discovered to have a serious health problem which posed a high risk of brain damage. Physicians advised that the child be aborted, but the mother entrusted her pregnancy to Saint Paul VI.
The child was born without problems, and continues in good health. He is considered completely healed. [1]

Pope Paul VI
Pope Paul VI was born Giovanni Montini in 1897 in the town of Concesio in the Lombardy region of Italy. He was ordained a priest at the age of 22, served as Archbishop of Milan before his election as pope in 1963. [1] Pope Paul VI was elevated to the papacy after the demise of Saint John XXIII.
Vatican Council II was automatically interrupted and suspended upon the death of Saint John XXIII, the pope who convened it. Saint Paul VI immediately announced that Vatican Council II would continue. Saint Paul VI's opening address on 29 September 1963 stressed the pastoral nature of the council, and set out four purposes for it:
- to define more fully the nature of the Church and the role of the       bishop
- to renew the Church
- to restore unity among Christians
- to start a dialogue with the contemporary world. [2]

After years of ministry which saw the encyclical Humanae Vitae [3] prophesy the moral laws which govern the transmission of life, Pope Paul VI passed away in 1978.

Saint of the Prolife Movement
Saint Paul VI has long been hailed as the Saint of the Prolife movement. It is only just and fitting that this holy prophet today received the highest honor this world has to offer - unequivocal recognition of his legacy in perpetuity.

GSC MODULE 58: THE SERMON ON THE MOUNT: PEACE AND SUFFERING

GOOD SHEPHERD CHURCH SEMINARY
MODULE 58
THE SERMON ON THE MOUNT:
PEACE AND SUFFERING

AS THE EVENING SHADOWS LENGTHENED ON THE MOUNTAIN, JESUS CONTINUED HIS SERMON BY TEACHING THE LAST TWO OF THE BEATITUDES.
The Sermon on the Mount is greater than we realize. In his introduction to the Gospel, Saint Matthew wishes us to understand that this is the official teaching of Jesus. This teaching is the opening of Jesus' whole mind to His disciples, the summary of the teaching which Jesus gave to the inner circle.
The Sermon on the Mount is the concentrated memory of many hours of heart to heart communion between the disciples and the Master.1  Through His teachings Jesus offers us the royal road to holiness and the elimination of the seeds of all disturbances in human relationships.

Brokers of Peace
In the seventh beatitude, Jesus dealt with the issue of peace. In Hebrew peace does not only mean the absence of trouble; peace means everything which makes for each person's highest good.
In the east, the greeting salaam - the same word - means wishing the wishing for the other more than the absence of bad things. Peace wishes for the other the presence of all good things.
Jesus taught, "Blessed are the peace-makers, for they shall be called sons of God." (Matthew 5:9)
The peace Jesus calls blessed is an action; it is the facing of difficult issues, dealing with them, overcoming them. The famous adage tells us, "The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing." 2

The one who actively engages in bringing about peace to a fraught situation is doing a God-like work.
The one who makes peace is engaged on the same work the God of peace is carrying out (Romans 15:33;  2 Corinthians 13:11;  1 Thessalonians 5:23; Hebrews 13:20).
The Jewish Rabbis taught that the highest task which can be performed is to bring about right relationships between people.
This is the task Jesus set us, His disciples; we are to actively work for peace in a world so often not at peace.

Blessed is the sufferer for Christ
Jesus never dissembled. He did not promise that discipleship would be an easy path with no cost.
He revealed that true discipleship is a difficult road to traverse, but we do not walk it alone.
We have Jesus as our companion on our life journey, and His Words to guide us as surely as a bright lantern on a dark night.
Jesus made it clear that He had come not to make life easy, but to make people holy.

The Master taught, "Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness' sake, for their is the Kingdom of Heaven.
Blessed are you when men revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely on my account. Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven, for so people persecuted the prophets who were before you." (Matthew 5:10-12)

Becoming a Christian disciple is like throwing a stone into a pond.
The resulting ripples fan out and keep on widening far beyond the original impact.
Just so the acceptance of Jesus' call to discipleship. There are consequence to the acceptance of this great mandate. Our life choices change. Our domicile changes. We no longer decide our own path, but consult the God of vocation before each decision.
During our prayer Christ reveals whether we are to marry or remain unmarried for the sake of the Kingdom.
He clarifies what work He wishes us to carry out for the purpose of the Kingdom. Jesus may expect us to stay near the place of our birth, or He may require us to travel to spread the Word of God.

The true disciple bows his or her head in acceptance of God's Will, because this is the test of true love and loyalty; to follow even when we do not fully understand.
We do not know the details of our life's journey, but we rest secure in the Hand of the God Who set us out on that journey.

Discipleship often does not bring comfort in its wake to the status quo. The Christian becomes a prophet; a speaker of the truth of the Gospel of Jesus Chris.
This witness may cause friction in home and family life when the needs of the family no longer form the main focus, taking second place to the demands of discipleship.
It must be noted, however, that discipleship should be carried out with balance, good sense and sound judgement.
A young mother, newly Christian, with an infant, cannot make the decision to put aside the needs of the infant in order to be free to spread the gospel.
Rather, her predominant responsibility is to the little life she has mothered, teaching the path of the Lord to the child she nurtures.
Christianity can never become an excuse for dereliction of true duty.

Christians have suffered down the centuries for their faith. They have been cast out from families and society, tortured and killed during persecutions. Slanders have been spread at times.
All of this our spiritual forefathers accepted in the Name of Him Who is "The Way, the Truth and the Life".  (John 14:6)

Whatever the suffering, the personal cross in our life as the personal cost of following Christ, we need to remember this beatitude: it is not in vain. We will be rewarded in heaven.

And what greater reward there be than the eternal right to look upon the most beautiful of all: our loving God and Father, our beloved Savior Jesus Christ.

Matthew 5

And seeing the multitudes, He went up into a mountain: and when He was set, His disciples came unto Him:
And he opened his mouth, and taught them, saying,
Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted.
Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth.
Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.
Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy.
Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.
Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.
10 Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness' sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
11 Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake.
12 Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you.
13 Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men.
14 Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.
15 Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house.
16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.
17 Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil.
18 For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.
19 Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.
20 For I say unto you, That except your righteousness shall exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no case enter into the kingdom of heaven.
21 Ye have heard that it was said of them of old time, Thou shalt not kill; and whosoever shall kill shall be in danger of the judgment:
22 But I say unto you, That whosoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment: and whosoever shall say to his brother, Raca, shall be in danger of the council: but whosoever shall say, Thou fool, shall be in danger of hell fire.
23 Therefore if thou bring thy gift to the altar, and there rememberest that thy brother hath ought against thee;
24 Leave there thy gift before the altar, and go thy way; first be reconciled to thy brother, and then come and offer thy gift.
25 Agree with thine adversary quickly, whiles thou art in the way with him; lest at any time the adversary deliver thee to the judge, and the judge deliver thee to the officer, and thou be cast into prison.
26 Verily I say unto thee, Thou shalt by no means come out thence, till thou hast paid the uttermost farthing.
27 Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not commit adultery:
28 But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart.
29 And if thy right eye offend thee, pluck it out, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell.
30 And if thy right hand offend thee, cut it off, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell.
31 It hath been said, Whosoever shall put away his wife, let him give her a writing of divorcement:
32 But I say unto you, That whosoever shall put away his wife, saving for the cause of fornication, causeth her to commit adultery: and whosoever shall marry her that is divorced committeth adultery.
33 Again, ye have heard that it hath been said by them of old time, Thou shalt not forswear thyself, but shalt perform unto the Lord thine oaths:
34 But I say unto you, Swear not at all; neither by heaven; for it is God's throne:
35 Nor by the earth; for it is his footstool: neither by Jerusalem; for it is the city of the great King.
36 Neither shalt thou swear by thy head, because thou canst not make one hair white or black.
37 But let your communication be, Yea, yea; Nay, nay: for whatsoever is more than these cometh of evil.
38 Ye have heard that it hath been said, An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth:
39 But I say unto you, That ye resist not evil: but whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also.
40 And if any man will sue thee at the law, and take away thy coat, let him have thy cloak also.
41 And whosoever shall compel thee to go a mile, go with him twain.
42 Give to him that asketh thee, and from him that would borrow of thee turn not thou away.
43 Ye have heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt love thy neighbour, and hate thine enemy.
44 But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;
45 That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.
46 For if ye love them which love you, what reward have ye? do not even the publicans the same?
47 And if ye salute your brethren only, what do ye more than others? do not even the publicans so?
48 Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.
