Graca Machel and report on The Impact of Armed Conflict on Children

The Effects of War on Children
Children who have been through a war are affected for life.
"The physical, sexual and emotional violence to which they (children) are exposed shatters their world.
War undermines the very foundations of children's lives, destroying their homes, splintering their communities and breaking down their trust in adults."
Graca Machel in her 1996 report 'The Impact of Armed Conflict on Children'

Amputation.
Mutilation.
Assault.
Flashbacks.
Post traumatic syndrome.
Orphans.
Psychiatric disorders.
Pain and suffering.
In the spirit of Lumiere, is there anything you can do to help ease the terrible fallout of these tragic events?

Help protect the children of Syria - War Child needs your help

Children are living through hell on earth in Syria right now.
Tears. Death. Mutilation. Bombs. Being orphaned.
There are thousands of children right now in Syria needing help.
Why not help dedicated War Child to assist children by taking them to one of War Child's 'Safe Spaces' where they can feel protected and cared for, where they can just be children and play.

Voice of justice for unborn babies

In the spirit of Lumiere, why not consider becoming a
voice for justice for unborn babies, and
join your local Prolife group?

If you feel you are being called to the priesthood, why
not consider whether you are called to the
Prolife ministry? Priests are urgently
needed to be the voice for the
unborn child.

Happy Birthday and Charity: Water

Almost a billion people in this wonderful world of us live without access to clean drinking water.
The dedicated members of Charity: Water have been changing that profile with startling results.
Birthdays are being celebrated by ... asking family, friends and colleagues to donate the money they would have spent for a present for you towards building a well for clean water instead.

This year, 36 people in Rwanda will get clean water because a boy named Lory turned six in New York.
Lory learned about millions of people in the world who walk up to two hours a day to collect water for their families - water that is not clean, but is all the water they have.
Lory gave up presents for his birthday and instead asked his family and friends to donate $6 to help build clean water projects.
With this effort and two Youtube videos, Lory raised funds.
The projects that were funded by his birthday campaign are currently underway in Rwanda.
Soon 36 people in Rwanda will stop drinking from the river or swamp, and have clean water near their homes for the first time.

Why not celebrate your birthday in style?
Fund a well and change lives immeasurably for the better ...
